vocabulary

words, not icons.

the vocabulary is closed and auditable: 'help' fits on one screen. if a command needs a paragraph to explain itself, it is a bad command and we would rather delete it.

the point

your thumb is on autopilot.

an icon grid trains a reflex: unlock, swipe, tap the blue square — and four minutes are gone before you decided anything. a prompt has no reflex to offer. you have to name what you came for, which is how you find out whether you came for anything at all.

the scrollback is an honest log of what you actually opened today. read it once and you will wince.

scripts

teach it a word.

a script is a sequence you record once and name. after that the name is part of the vocabulary — one word instead of the same four taps every morning.

  1. 01 record 'script new focus' opens recording mode. one command per line.
  2. 02 save 'end' saves it. nothing runs while you record, so you cannot set your phone on fire by accident.
  3. 03 run 'focus' now silences what is noisy and opens what matters.
